Over 25 Years of Service and Progressive Leadership
With deep roots in Wright County and decades of service to its residents, Matt Treichler is running for Sheriff to ensure Wright County continues to be a safe, secure, and thriving place to live, work, and raise a family.
Matt brings over 25 years of dedicated service in law enforcement serving the people of Wright County, with over thirteen of those years progressively advancing in leadership roles.
Current Chief Deputy Overseeing a Large Public Safety Operation
As the current Chief Deputy of the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Matt oversees the daily operation of the third-largest Sheriff’s Office in the state, serving a population of approximately 155,000 people. Matt Treichler collaborates with the Sheriff in managing a budget of over $50 million dollars, supervising more than three hundred employees, and ensuring the safety of an average daily jail population of over 130 inmates.
Comprehensive Operational Experience Across Units and Functions
Prior to his role as Chief Deputy, Matt served in various capacities, including Operations Lieutenant, Sergeant of the Special Investigations Unit, Field Training Officer for new deputies, a member of the Major Crimes Investigations Unit, Drug Investigator, Use of Force Instructor, Emergency Response Team leader, and later the Emergency Response Team Tactical Commander. Matt also serves as a board member on the Mentorship Education and Drug Awareness (MEADA) Coalition of Wright County.
Leading Modernization, Wellness, and Mental Health Initiatives
Matt Treichler led key modernization and wellness initiatives for the Sheriff’s Office, championing both community mental health and employee wellbeing.
Matt has been involved in implementing significant projects within the Sheriff’s Office including the building of a new agency training center, a new records management system, and a body-worn camera program. Matt is committed to the wellbeing of our community and staff. Matt worked with key stakeholders to create the first co-responder program in Wright County, which partners law enforcement with mental health professionals to provide immediate support to individuals experiencing mental health crises. Matt also worked to create the first wellness program for Sheriff’s Office staff to encourage all employees to be healthy both physically and emotionally.
Critical Incident Leadership in High-Stakes Situations
As Tactical Commander of the Emergency Response Team, Operational Lieutenant, and later as Chief Deputy, Matt Treichler has been at the forefront during numerous critical incidents – leading response teams, operational planning, and incident command.

Matt holds an Associate Degree from Central Lakes College and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from St. Cloud State University. Matt is also a graduate of the Trilogy Leadership Institute sponsored by the FBI, Law Enforcement Executive Development Association.

Matt and his wife Christine live in the Annandale area where they raised two children. They are proud to be part of this community.
